  • Abstract:
    Conflict and disputes continue to abound in the construction industry. Much has been written on the issue but little achieved in understanding their causes. If clients had a sound understanding of the factors that cause conflict and disputes they could take appropriate avoidance measures. An interpretative model or framework is needed that would enable the causative factors to be identified and analysed. This paper proposes such an interpretative framework based on transaction cost economics theory. The practical viability of the framework is illustrated through two case studies of Hong Kong construction projects.
